Resources

Here are some resources to help you on your mission to become a FAST Hero! Students, parents and Grandheroes may find these resources helpful for earning points, badges and fundraising.

Fundraising

Part of your mission is to raise funds so that more children and families can become FAST Heroes and gain life-saving knowledge. A contribution helps cover mission materials, and when the whole class reaches its shared goal, every child receives a FAST Hero cape as a reminder that heroes achieve more together.

Fundraising tips

The best way to kick off fundraising is for parents to make a donation to your child's page. Once you have donated, share the link with family and friends. Posting it on social media can help your child reach their goal even quicker.

How to for kids

Ask your family

Ask your parents and grandparents to make a donation to your page. This is the best way to get started.

Ask your parents to share a link to your fundraising page with their friends on Facebook, Instagram, X, WhatsApp or Viber. This is a great way to increase your donations.

Remind people

Did someone say they would donate but has not yet? Record a video on your phone asking for donations, and ask your parents to send it to them.

Ways to earn

Here are some fun ways that you can raise donations to reach your goal.

Get moving and get sponsored

How many jumping jacks can you do in 3 minutes? How long can you stand on one foot? Can you make your bed with your eyes closed? Create a challenge and ask your friends and family to sponsor you with a donation if you successfully complete it.

Set up a sidewalk sale

Do you like to draw or paint? How about baking or making juice? Make something you love and sell it to your neighbours in exchange for a donation.

Help out at home

Can you take out the rubbish and recycling this week? Or offer to do the vacuuming? Can you put the dishes away after dinner every night? Ask your parents to sponsor you with a donation and start cleaning up.

Count the candies or lollies

Find a large jar or clear container with a lid, then fill it with lollies or small candies. Count them as you go. Ask friends and family to guess how many are in the jar for a small donation. Record guesses so no one chooses the same number. The person with the closest guess wins the jar.

Points and badges

Your Mission Control page shows what you need to do each week to earn a badge. Every action you complete helps you build points, support your class, and climb the leaderboards.

Tech tutorials for heroes

Every mission challenges children to start a sticker battle with their Grandheroes. Children have an advantage with their FAST Heroes sticker pack, but Grandheroes can make their own digital stickers to send back.

On iPhone

If you have an iPhone made in 2022 or later, you can turn any person, pet or object from a photo into a sticker in seconds. Step 1: Open the Photos app and find a clear photo of the subject, like a pet or the grandparent. Step 2: Touch and hold on the subject. You will see a shimmer or glowing outline appear around it. Step 3: Tap Add Sticker from the pop-up menu. Step 4: Tap Add Effect if you want to give it a Puffy, Outline or Comic look. Next time you are in Messages, tap the plus icon or emoji button, then select the Sticker icon. Your custom creations will be there.

On Android

Open Google Photos and select a photo. Long-press on the person or object you want to turn into a sticker. A menu will appear with the option to Copy or Share. On many Android devices, you can tap Save as Sticker to add it directly to your Gboard sticker tray.

Samsung specific

If you have a Galaxy phone, go to your Gallery. Tap Edit, then tap the Smiley Face icon. Select Stickers, then Create, to turn any photo into a custom emoji. If these options do not work, try one of the other sticker methods on this page.

Using WhatsApp Sticker Maker

Open a conversation with a family member. In the typing bar, tap the Sticker icon. It looks like a square with a folded corner. Tap Create or the plus sign. Pick a photo of a grandchild, pet or yourself. WhatsApp will usually outline the person automatically. Tap Done and send it.

Using iPhone Memojis

Every iPhone has Memoji, which are cartoon versions of yourself. This is a safe way for grandparents to have custom stickers without cutting out photos. Open Messages and start a new text. Tap the Memoji icon with three little faces. Tap the plus sign to create a character, then follow the prompts for skin tone, hair colour and glasses. Once the character is made, Apple automatically creates a pack of stickers based on that character. To use them, tap the Emoji button on the keyboard and swipe left to see the custom cartoon face.

Helpful hero

FAST Heroes are great helpers. As a grandchild, you can sit with your Grandhero and help them figure out how to make stickers using the instructions above.

Make it big and bold

If it is hard to read the information on your phone screen, making the text appear larger will help.

On iPhone

Path: Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size. Tap Larger Text, turn on Larger Accessibility Sizes, and use the slider to make text bigger. Turn Bold Text on. Turn Show Borders on to add a clear outline around buttons so they are easier to see.

On Android

Path: Settings > Accessibility > Text and Display. Select Font Size and move the slider to the right. Select Display Size to make icons and buttons bigger, not just the text. Turn High Contrast Text on.

Slow down the touch

If a grandparent feels like the phone is too sensitive, or they keep accidentally clicking things, you can adjust the touch and hold delay.

On iPhone

Path: Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Haptic Touch. Change the touch duration to Slow. This requires a longer press to trigger secondary menus, which helps prevent accidental pop-ups.

On Android

Path: Settings > Accessibility > Timing controls > Touch & hold delay. Set this to Medium or Long.
